
Otters Downed in Windsor, 5-4

The Erie Otters showed a killer instinct with the man advantage by scoring three power play goals but they weren't enough as the Otters lost their final game of the preseason to the Windsor Spitfires, 5-4, Saturday night at WFCU Centre.
The Spitfires picked up an power play goal just 53 seconds into the game courtesy of Tom Kuhnhackl. Shawn Szydlowski returned from Ottawa Senators rookie camp and immediately made his presence felt by tying the score at 2:55.
After Windsor tallied another power play goal at 8:55 courtesy of Nick Ebert, Derek Holden tied the game at 11:01 for his second of the preseason. Nick Czinder scored with just over a minute left in the period to give Windsor the lead heading into the first intermission.
Erie tied the game once again on the power play as Mike Cazzola scored at 10:53 of the second. Kuhnhackl then collected his second of the game at 14:59 when he converted on a shorthanded breakaway, making it 4-3 Spitfires going into the third period.
Alex Khokhlachev gave the Spitfires another power play goal at 10:23 of the final frame that effectively sealed the win for Windsor. Rookie Connor Crisp tallied his third goal in four preseason games for the Otters at 17:30 of the third to finish off the scoring.
The Otters outshot Windsor, 46-34, as Ramis Sadikov played through the entire contest and made 29 saves. Erie finished the game 3-for-6 on the power play, while Cazzola (1g, 1a) Crisp (1g, 1a), Mac McDonnell (2a) each had two-point games.
The Otters open the regular season Friday night in Brampton against the Battalion at 7:30 p.m. The game can be heard live on FOX Sports Radio AM 1330 The FAN and on-line at www.ottershockey.com beginning with the pre-game show at 7:15 p.m.
The 15th season of OHL hockey in Erie begins Saturday, September 25 when the Otters host the Saginaw Spirit at 7:00 p.m. The event begins with a free pre-game party at Jerry Uht Park at 5:00 p.m. featuring entertainment by Thirst N Howl and food and drink for a reduced price. The first 2,500 fans into the game receive a free magnetic schedule courtesy of Springhill Suites. Before the game, the Otters will retire the No. 18 of the late Vinny Scott.
