Erie Otters News Release
The Erie Otters (7-9-2-1) continued their strong play from the previous with another offensive barrage against the Niagara IceDogs, with a three-goal second period en route to a 6-2 win in St. Catherines Saturday night.
The Otters got off to a quick start much like they did Friday night, and it resulted in a goal 5:36 into the game. Zack Torquato and Greg McKegg traded passes entering the Niagara zone on the right wing, and McKegg centered the puck to Mike Cazzola, who fired a shot through the glove side of Mark Visentin to put the Otters on the board.
Exactly three minutes later, Anthony Luciani scored his team-leading 14th goal of the season on a breakaway, with his wrist shot beating Visentin to the glove side. Andrew Yogan and Tyler Hostetter picked up the assists.
The IceDogs would end up tying the game by the 1:46 mark of the second period, but the Otters stormed back with four unanswered, the first of which was a tie-breaking marker by McKegg with the man advantage.
McKegg took a pass from Holden and moved to the right circle, faking out the Niagara defense with a shot and pulling to his left with a blast that bounced off the side of Visentin and into the net for McKegg's fifth of the season.
Brady Austin started the play for the Otters' fourth goal of the night, forcing a turnover in the IceDogs zone from Mike Schwindt, going behind the net, and feeding the puck to Matt Paton, in front, who roofed a backhander for his third of the season at 17:24.
A minute and 25 seconds later, Torquato pitched in with a backhander of his own for his ninth goal of the season. Yogan picked up the primary assist, while Paul Cianfrini got credit for his first point of the season with an assist.
Cazzola added an insurance goal with 1:05 left in regulation on a two-on-one with Greg McKegg, pushing his goal tally to eight for the season.
Not to be lost in the offensive display, Ramis Sadikov was spectacular in net for the Otters, making 38 saves and earning second star honors.
McKegg (1g-2a) had a three-point night, while Yogan (2a), Torquato (1g-1a) and Cazzola (2g) all had two-point nights.
The Otters will wake up early for their next game Wednesday morning at Tullio Arena against the Saginaw Spirit at 11:00 a.m. Tickets are available through Ticketmaster, the Tullio Aren box office, or by calling 452-4857.
