The Evansville Otters have signed North High School and University of Southern Indiana graduate Josh Huebner. The former All-Southern Indiana Athletic Conference and All-Metro player in high school joins the 2010 Otters as a middle infielder.
Huebner, 23, played one year (2008) of baseball after spending a season on USI's basketball team. The first team All-GLVC second baseman led the Screaming Eagles in batting with a.396 average and also led the team in runs scored (47) and stolen bases (32). Huebner was also named to the first team ABCA and first team All-Region and holds the USI record with stolen bases in one game with four.
The versatile athlete also played the 2007-2008 basketball season for USI and was second on the team in assists. A point guard, Huebner played in 20 games, shot 34% from the field and contributed 5.5 points per game.
Before returning to Evansville to play at USI, Huebner played two years at Wabash Valley College (Mt. Carmel, Ill.). In 2007, Huebner batted.358 with 32 RBIs and 12 doubles. At North High School, Huebner led the Huskies to the Class 4A state finals in 2005, batting over.700 with six RBIs in tournament play.
Huebner becomes the first North High School graduate to play for the Otters since Kyle Smith in 2006 and 2007.
