December 27, 2013 - National Basketball League of Canada (NBL Canada)
Ottawa SkyHawks News Release
Windsor hosted the high flying SkyHawks Friday evening where both teams came to assert their dominance at the Windsor Family Credit Union (WFCU) Centre.
Representing Ottawa in a big way, Ottawa native Eric Kibi had his first career start as a SkyHawk resulting in a double double with 10 points and 11 rebounds.
With four minutes to spare in the first, Ottawa tied Windsor at 15-15. With one minute left, the Express ran away with the score at a 13 point lead leaving the scoreboard at 32-19.
First quarter ended with Windsor up by 16 points with a score of 36-19 going into the second.
Halfway through the second quarter, the SkyHawks trailed as the Express sat on a 13 point lead. It seemed like Ottawa had lost some confidence and momentum after Baines flagrant foul in the first quarter.
First half concluded and although having outscored the Express by one point in the quarter, the Ottawa SkyHawks were holding onto a 16 point deficit against the Express who rounded up the second quarter at 59-43 points. Anderson led the SkyHawks with 11 points as Kibi held it down on the defensive end with 9 rebounds.
With the third under way, Windsor looks to put the game away early as Ottawa sits back 16 points. From 16 to 18 to 19, Windsor was sitting on their biggest lead of the game halfway through the third quarter and it didn't seem to be slowing down as the Express fought to keep their grip on Ottawa tight. With two minutes left to spare in the third, our fearless SkyHawks cut the Express' lead down to 8 points and seemed to have gotten over their wet feet as they were now moving more like a team.
Going into the final quarter, it seemed like all the pressure was on the Express as Ottawa was slowly chipping away at Windsor's lead and knocking at their door with only a nine point lead.
Windsor fought hard in the fourth to maintain their lead as it was a tight point for point game with Ottawa bringing the gap all the way down to five points toward the final moments of the game. Unfortunately Windsor had the advantage in the end and were able to successfully chase the SkyHawks off with a win of 87-102.
