Ottawa SkyHawks News Release
The Mississauga Power hosted the Ottawa SkyHawks Thursday evening on their home turf. Having beat the power the last two times they faced off, the SkyHawks came to the Hershey Center knowing the Power weren't looking to give up another win.
The Power, looking to end Ottawa's winning streak between their series, realized quickly that they had their work cut out for them.ÃâàThe SkyHawks demonstrated that they were not being sent home that easily as they sank 5 of 8 3-point shots ending the first quarter with a tied score of 24-24.
Evidently it was a heated game as the Power fought to keep the SkyHawks off the scoreboard, but the SkyHawks demonstrated sound ball movement and showed no signs of budging as they ended the half with a score of 48-48.
In the past where Mississauga struggled in the second half, they buckled down and didn't give in during Thursday's game as they managed to match the SkyHawks bucket for bucket making them sweat for their win.
With the pressure on, Belleville, ON native, James Vanderbeken, made it clear that the SkyHawks were not going home without the win, as he drained four 3-point shots in the second half.ÃâàAn outstanding performance by SkyHakws Canadian player, Vanderbeken shot 60% finishing with 18 points and six 3-pointers.
With back-to-back-to-back three pointers, the SkyHawks turned the game around in the last minute of the third quarter as they reclaimed the lead at 80-78, but ultimately concluded with a one point deficit going into the final quarter at 80-81.
In true Ottawa fashion, with 5 minutes to spare in the final quarter, the SkyHawksÃâàturned it up to stretch their lead to 12 points.ÃâàTheir energy only seems to increase and their composure collected as the final minutes counted down. Going for the third consecutive win against the Power in their series, Ottawa finished strong at the Hershey Center with a final score of 100-98.
Leading the SkyHawks were James Vanderbeken and Ryan Anderson with 18 points each, while Jermaine Johnson cleaned up the glass with 8 rebounds.
