Ottawa Fury FC Earns First Win at WakeMed Soccer Park, Beat RailHawks 3-1

CARY, NC (September 26, 2015) - The Carolina RailHawks fell to Ottawa Fury FC 3-1 during a rainy Saturday night match at WakeMed Soccer Park. The match was Ottawa Fury's ninth consecutive road match without a loss.

"The only thing we can do is work harder and take care of more details," said RailHawks Head Coach Colin Clarke. "We can't be afraid of the situation - we're going to embrace it, meet it head-on and change it."

The RailHawks came out pressing Ottawa Fury's defensive line but failed to capitalize early on. Ottawa Fury nearly seized the lead in the 15th minute when a cross from Ryan Richter found Tom Heinemann's foot in the six-yard box. Just minutes later, Ottawa Fury threated again with a scramble in the box, leaving Connor Tobin to make a goal line clear and Akira Fitzgerald to come up with a huge save.

Ottawa Fury finally claimed the lead in the 19th minute when former-RailHawk Tom Heinemann weaved through two RailHawks defenders and slid his shot just inches past the right arm of Akira Fitzgerald. The RailHawks responded with momentum of their own, but Ottawa Fury increased their lead to two following a second Tom Heinemann goal in the 34th minute. Paulo Junior made the score line 3-0 during stoppage time of the first half.

The RailHawks burst into the second half and immediately earned two corner kicks. Nacho Novo buried a penalty kick in the 51st minute after being dragged down inside of the box to cut the score to 3-1. Despite their improved second-half play, the RailHawks couldn't overcome the deficit and the score line would remain 3-1.

The RailHawks remain home at WakeMed Soccer Park to take on Jacksonville Armada FC on Saturday, October 10th at 7:30 pm ET.
