Ottawa Blackjacks Welcome Back Thomas Scrubb for the 2022 CEBL Season

The Ottawa BlackJacks of the Canadian Elite Basketball League (CEBL) announced Thursday that Thomas Scrubb has signed with the Club for the 2022 CEBL season.

A six-foot-seven forward from Vancouver, BC, Scrubb has averaged 11.5 points and 5.5 rebounds in 307 professional games, playing in Spain, France, Italy, Germany, Finland and in the CEBL.

The Carleton University alumnus played for the Ottawa BlackJacks during their inaugural season at the CEBL Summer Series in St. Catharines. He averaged 15.0 points and 6.9 rebounds in eight games. He ranked fifth in the league in scoring and fourth in rebounding and led his team in both categories. Scrubb scored a season-high 20 points on August 5 against Saskatchewan and recorded a double-double with 12 points and a season-high 10 rebounds six days later against Fraser Valley.

Last year, Scrubb joined the Niagara River Lions on July 27 and played six games with the team, including the CEBL Championship game against the Edmonton Stingers. He averaged 17.7 points, 7.5 rebounds and 3.7 assists and was a pivotal piece of Niagara's CEBL playoff run.

This past season, Scrubb moved to Spain to play for Monbus Obradoiro in the Spanish ACB, the top professional basketball league in the country. He averaged 12.2 points and 5.1 rebounds in 34 games and scored 15 or more points 11 times. He scored a season-high 24 points, shooting 10-for-11 from the field, to go along with six rebounds, two assists and one steal on April 24 in a win over Gran Canaria.

During the 2018-19 campaign playing for Openjobmentis in Italy, the Vancouver native averaged 13.3 points and 6.1 rebounds in 48 games. His team reached the FIBA Europe Cup semifinal and Scrubb received an Eurobasket.com All-FIBA Europe Cup Honorable Mention.

A household name in Ottawa and throughout Canada, Scrubb has a long history of representing Canada internationally. Most recently, Scrubb played for the Canadian Senior National team in the 2023 FIBA World Cup Qualifier, averaging 9.5 points, 5.8 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 24.0 minutes in four games.

The Carleton Ravens alumnus is one of the most accomplished players in U SPORTS history, capturing five national championships with the Carleton Ravens. He averaged 10.9 points, 5.8 rebounds and 2.1 assists in 104 university games. He was named CIS (U SPORTS) Defensive Player of the Year twice and CIS tournament All-Star on three occasions. The Neuroscience major also earned various awards on the provincial level, such as OUA Defensive Player of the Year in his senior year.

Ottawa's current training camp roster is comprised of 14 players, with additional players, including Thomas Scrubb, joining the team in the near future.

The BlackJacks 20-game regular season will tip off with a game at home versus Fraser Valley on Wednesday, May 25, 2022, at 7:30pm.
