MISSOULA, MT - Ramon Castillo's two-homer night was not enough to lift the Missoula Osprey to a win in front of 2,370 fans at Ogren Park Allegiance Field on Wednesday.
Castillo hit two of Missoula's four roundtrippers, but the Great Falls Voyagers collected 16 hits and outscored the Osprey in an 11-7 win.
With the loss, the Osprey fall back into a first-place tie with the Voyagers in the Pioneer League's North Division second-half standings. Both teams have the same half and overall records, 9-13 in the second half, and 30-30 overall. Billings is back within a game and a half, after winning at Helena, 6-5.
Castillo went back-to-back with David Narodowski to spark a four-run second inning that gave the Osprey a 4-3 lead. Ender Inciarte added a RBI single to plate Errol Hollinger, whose double nearly cleared the wall in left field after the back-to-back homers.
It was the four time this month that the Osprey had hit back-to-back home runs in a game. Narodowski becomes the third player - joining Paul Goldschmidt and Keon Broxton - to be involved in back-to-back home runs twice in the same season.
Great Falls would score a pair of runs in each of the next two innings, then added another run in the top of the fifth to take an 8-4 lead.
Castillo followed that with his second two-run homer of the night, deep down the left-field line to pull the Osprey within 8-6. However, the Voyagers scored three times in the top of the eighth inning to get enough insurance runs to get the win.
The Osprey had a golden chance to tie the game in the bottom of the seventh inning, loading the bases with two out. Hollinger nearly had his second double of the night, but the bouncer down the third-base line just went over the bag foul, and Hollinger would ground out to end the threat.
The Osprey would score once in the ninth, on their fourth homer of the night, as Paul Goldschmidt hit his 15th home run of the season with two out. Goldschmidt is now one home run shy of tying the Osprey record, set by Jesus Cota in 2001.
The Osprey and Voyagers will close out their three-game series at Ogren Park Allegiance Field on Thursday. Enrique Burgos will get the ball for the Osprey, while the Voyagers will turn to Joucer Martinez in a battle of right-handers.
Tickets for any remaining Osprey home game this season can be obtained by calling the Osprey at (406) 543-3300, stopping by the Osprey Team Store at 412 W. Alder, or ordering online at www.missoulaosprey.com.
