GREAT FALLS, MONT. - Yoimer Camacho and two pitchers combined to scatter seven hits, while the Missoula Osprey managed to get enough offense as they beat the Great Falls Voyagers on Tuesday, 3-1, here at Centene Stadium in front of 970 fans.
With the win, the Osprey (21-15, 39-35) are back into a first-place tie with the Billings Mustangs (21-15, 42-32) in the Pioneer League North Division Second-Half Standings. The Mustangs lost at Helena on Tuesday, 11-5. The Osprey still need to sweep the two-game series with the Mustangs at Ogren Park Allegiance Field on Wednesday and Thursday to secure the final playoff spot in the Pioneer League.
Once again, the Osprey scored first, pushing a run across in the top of the first inning. Pedro Ruiz singled, moved to third on a throwing error on a pickoff attempt, and scored on an Adam McConnell groundout for a 1-0 Osprey lead.
The Voyagers would answer that run with one of their own in the bottom of the second off of Osprey starter Yoimer Camacho (3-4), which scored on a McConnell throwing error. However, the Osprey would score in the top of the sixth when Socrates Brito walked and would eventually score on an Alex Glenn RBI triple, giving the Osprey a 2-1 lead.
Missoula added an insurance run in the top of the ninth inning. Glenn reached on an error, stole second and scored on a Danny Pulfer RBI single that pushed the Osprey advantage to 3-1. Great Falls (14-22, 38-36) would load the bases in the bottom of the ninth inning, but Patrick Smith would strike out both Michael Johnson and Brent Tanner to finish off the game, and earn his first professional save.
The Osprey had eight hits on the night, two of which came from Ruiz. Michael Perez, Yosbel Gutierrez, Tyler Bream and Kevin Dultz also had base hits for Missoula.
The Osprey now head home for their final two games of the regular season, a crucial North Division showdown with the Billings Mustangs at Ogren Park Allegiance Field. The Osprey will send right-hander Chris Thomas to the mound opposite Mustangs right-hander Sal Romano.
Tickets are available now at the MSO Hub Box Office, located at 140 North Higgins in Downtown Missoula, online at MissoulaOsprey.com and by phone (406) 543-3300.
