Missoula PaddleHeads News Release

BILLINGS, MT - Mike Belfiore was in his own zone on Friday here at Dehler Park, and the Missoula Osprey scored enough runs to keep it going.

Belfiore pitched a season-high eight innings, striking out nine batters while allowing just five hits, a walk and an unearned run, while a pair of two-out, two-run doubles backed his performance enough to give Missoula a 4-1 win in front of 2,814 fans.

Belfiore (2-2) threw just 86 pitches, 67 of which went for strikes, in his eight innings of work to pick up the win on the mound. Adam Worthington pitched around a dropped strike three and an error to fan three batters and collect his second save of the season.

Bobby Borchering hit a two-run double with two out in the top of the fourth inning to give the Osprey (11-13, 32-30) a 2-1 lead. Bobby Stone duplicated the feat in the seventh inning, pushing the Missoula advantage to 4-1, and likely allowing Belfiore the chance to pitch the eighth inning.

The Osprey collected nine hits on the night, with Keon Broxton getting a pair of doubles, and Raywily Gomez - back in the lineup after missing a week due to a sprained ankle, and making his first start of the season at second base - singled twice to pace the offense. Ender Inciarte, Chris Owings and Ramon Castillo also singled for Missoula.

With the win, the Osprey will stay at least one game ahead of Great Falls, and at least 2 ½ games in front of the Helena Brewers. The two teams were playing each other, with the Voyagers holding a 9-6 lead at last report. The Mustangs, with the loss, fall 3 ½ games off the pace.

The Osprey will continue their four-game series with the Mustangs at Dehler Park on Saturday. Right-hander Miguel Pena will get the call for the Osprey, while the Mustangs counter with Leonardo Astorga.

The Osprey will play their final six games at home in their final homestand, which will begin on Friday, September 4. Tickets for any remaining Osprey home game this season can be obtained by calling the Osprey at (406) 543-3300, stopping by the Osprey Team Store at 412 W. Alder, or ordering online at www.missoulaosprey.com.
