Mississauga Power News Release
(OSHAWA, ON) Durham's team the Oshawa Power got a much needed win and put an end to a six-game losing streak with a 94-71 win over the Moncton Miracles.
The Power took a 42-33 halftime lead into the locker room, but unlike their previous six games they began the third quarter with more energy and effort feeding off of the great crowd at the General Motors Centre. Using a 9-2 run to begin the half, they never looked back from there taking a 23 point victory in Interim Head Coach Robert Brickey's debut.
"It's a great feeling" said Brickey after his first win. "I'm happy for the guys, it was good to see them share the ball and have fun while playing. I was happy for the fans, because they got an entertaining game."
The Power held Moncton to a 39% field goal performance with stingy defense led by Canadians Paul Campbell and David Collins who combined for 5 of the Power's 12 blocked shots.
Number one overall draft pick Morgan Lewis led all scorers with 20 points, and Akeem Wright added 17 in the win.
Andrew Francis led the Miracles with a double-double of 15 points and 10 rebounds, Sylvania Watkins added 13 points and 8 rebounds in the losing effort.
The Power will have little time to celebrate the win as they host the red hot Quebec Kebs Friday December 30. Tipoff is at 7:30 p.m. at the General Motors Centre.
