Mill Rats Struck by Lightning

(Saint John, NB): The Saint John Mill Rats were struck by lightning with a final score of 104-93 at Harbour Station on Thursday evening in front of a crowd of 2,564.

The Mill Rats fought hard from the beginning, ending the first quarter with a score of 28-24.

In the second quarter, the Mill Rats lost their momentum and were outscored by the Lightning 32-21. With just under three minutes remaining, the Mill Rats had closed the gap to 40-50 but London went on a run ending the half with a score of 45-60.

For most of the third, the Lightning held a ten point lead. With just under a couple minutes remaining, the Mill Rats were able to fight back to a five point spread but the Lightning held their lead 69-78.

The last quarter opened with a three from Anthony Anderson. The Mill Rats and Lightning rallied a tough game back and forth. With just over five minutes, the Mill Rats narrowed the gap to within five points again with Kevin Francis on the line shooting two for two bringing the score to 82-87.

The Lightning answered back and were able to keep their lead until the end. The game was an aggressive, physical one as London took home two technical fouls and the Mill Rats, one.

Tonight's game against the #1 ranked team in the league, also marked the debut of Drew Stratton, former KVHS graduate and Dalhousie University player. Leading scorer for the game was Double A - Anthony Anderson with an impressive 31 points and 11 assists. Steve DeLuca had 18 points while Kevin Francis came in with 11. For the Lightning, Gabe Freeman and Rodney Buford each took home 20 points, while DeAnthony Bowden had 18.

The Mill Rats drop to 8-9, while the London Lightning step up to 13-4.

The Mill Rats will be on the road for their next four games taking on the Summerside Storm, Moncton Miracles, Quebec Kebs and the Halifax Rainmen. Join the team Jan. 14th, Saturday as they take on the Rainmen by riding on the Mill Rats Fan Bus.

The Mill Rats host the London Lightning again on Sunday, January. 15th for the "Smells Like School Spirit" Theme.
