"Nashville is coming in on a strong run, especially in their last game. No doubt that it's going to be a good rival that we want to beat at this point in our season. Especially after our last game as well, we have the urgencies to get some results and get some points," Head Coach Oscar Pareja said. "A very important game like any other at this point of the season where we're starting in the second part, so going to Nashville and getting a good result there will be very important."
Wednesday will serve as the first matchup between the two sides this season, currently separated by a single point in the Eastern Conference standings with Nashville sitting in third followed by the Lions in fourth. Through three matchups a year ago, the Lions took a win, loss and a draw from the 2019 expansion side, highlighted by a 3-1 victory on Aug. 26 at Exploria Stadium.
City comes into the match after over a week off from league action, falling in the Quarterfinals of the 2021 Leagues Cup to Santos Laguna this past Thursday. Juan Otero scored the eventual game-winner in the 30th minute, with goalkeeper Mason Stajduhar tallying a single-game high three saves in the match.
Nani leads the Lions with nine goals this season, followed by Tesho Akindele and Benji Michel each with three. Mauricio Pereyra leads the side with seven assists, followed by Nani with six.
Nashville enters the midweek after a commanding 5-2 victory over D.C. United on Sunday night at Nissan Stadium. Braces from C.J. Sapong and Alex Muyl, led the home side, with Hany Mukhtar accounting for the remaining finish in the match.
Sapong and Mukhtar sit tied for a team-high eight goals for Nashville this season, with Mukhtar also sitting atop the side in assists, tied with Randall Leal with six on the year.
Following Wednesday's match, the Lions will return home to take on Chicago Fire FC on Saturday, Aug. 21 at Exploria Stadium. Kickoff is slated for 8 p.m. ET with tickets available here or by calling (855) ORL-CITY.
