Salem, VA-The Salem Avalanche, Class A-Advanced affiliate of the Houston Astros, is pleased to announce the selection of first baseman Mark Ori and outfielder Jordan Parraz to the Carolina League's Postseason All-Star Team. The pair was selected to the team by a panel comprised of media, general managers and field staff.
Ori has spent the balance of the last month as the active leader in batting average and RBI within the Carolina League. He's hitting at a .307 clip for the season and owns 88 total runs batted in, good for third overall in the league in each. Ori's average has stayed over .300 since the close of play on June 22nd. The second-year Avalanche player has eclipsed his best career RBI number by 28, outdoing a total of 60 in 2006 while with the South Atlantic League's Lexington Legends. The Northwestern product leads the Avalanche with 20 multi-RBI games.
Parraz, meanwhile, was thrust into the leadoff role early this season and has flourished. The outfielder leads the team in both walks (64) and on-base percentage (.399) while hitting an overall .289 with six home runs and 42 RBI. Parraz is still the owner of the longest on-base streak this season, a 38-game string that lasted from its inception on June 21st to August 8th.
The remainder of the team, listed below, includes Manager of the Year Rocket Wheeler, whose Myrtle Beach Pelicans led the team with five members. Kinston and Player of the Year Beau Mills placed second with four honorees.
