Oregon native, Nashville outfielder Cole Gillespie returns to Northwest

PORTLAND, Ore. - The Portland Beavers play host to the Memphis Redbirds and Nashville Sounds in an event-filled, eight-game homestand at PGE Park, featuring post-game fireworks and Military Appreciation Night over Memorial Day weekend. The lineup of events begins Thursday with the team's annual Mullet Night.

The Beavers upcoming homestand features the homecoming of West Linn, Ore., native and former Oregon State University player Cole Gillespie, who is currently an outfielder for Nashville. Gillespie, a member of OSU's College Baseball World Series championship team in 2006, returns to Oregon for the Sounds' series against the Beavers through Sunday.

An annual fan-favorite, the Beavers pay tribute to the famed business-in-the-front, party-in-the-back hairdo with Mullet Night on a Miller Lite Thursday at PGE Park. The night will feature several mullet-themed activities including an Achy Breaky Heart Dance-Off, inspired by singer Billy Ray Cyrus' early 1990s hairdo, and mullet trivia. Supercuts will be on site prior to the game to give fans a mullet haircut in exchange for a free general admission ticket.

The Beavers kick off Memorial Day weekend on Friday as they host the first in a series of post-game fireworks shows following select Friday home games at PGE Park presented by Comcast. On Saturday, the Beavers honor those who serve and have served in the military with Military Appreciation Night presented by the U.S. Army. The first 1,903 fans Saturday receive a Beavers military cap. The long weekend ends with a special day game on Monday at PGE Park, presented by American Family Insurance, as the Beavers begin a four-game series against Memphis; first pitch is set for 2:05 p.m.

Portland-area kids descend on PGE Park on Wednesday, May 27 for the Beavers' third US Bank Art & Science of School Day presented by Intel of the season. With gates opening at 9 a.m., kids will have the opportunity to take part in interactive displays and a pre-game presentation from OMSI. Kids in attendance receive an official US Bank School Day hat. The Beavers game against the Redbirds begins at 11:05 a.m.

Tickets for the Beavers homestand against Nashville, the Triple-A affiliate of Milwaukee Brewers, and Memphis, the St. Louis Cardinals' Triple-A club, are available through the PGE Park box office, area Ticketmaster outlets, online at www.ticketmaster.com or by phone at (800) 745-3000. SPECIAL EVENT HIGHLIGHTS (Homestand 3): Thursday, May 21 Mullet Night / Miller Lite Thursday - Beavers vs. Nashville - 7:05 p.m. The Beavers open an eight-game homestand and a four-game series against Nashville on Mullet Night on a Miller Lite Thursday at PGE Park. Celebrating the famed hairdo, an Achy Breaky Dance-Off and mullet trivia are among the list of activities on tap. Fans will be rewarded with free admission to the game if they get a mullet hair cut courtesy of SuperCuts at PGE Park prior to the game.

Friday, May 22 Post-game Fireworks - Beavers vs. Nashville - 7:05 p.m. Following their game against the Sounds, the Beavers present the first in a series of special fireworks displays at PGE Park presented by Comcast. On a Comcast $1 Menu Friday, a variety of discounted concession items will be available including $1 hot dogs, Sierra Springs water and Nestle ice cream desserts. Immediately after the game, two high school players will slug it out for a chance to take part in the American Family Insurance All-Star Home Run Derby on July 13 at PGE Park.

Saturday, May 23 Military Appreciation Night - Beavers vs. Nashville - 7:05 p.m. In honor of Memorial Day, the Beavers play host to Military Appreciation Night presented by the U.S. Army. Those who present their military ID will receive up to 20 percent off tickets purchased at the PGE Park box office on the day of the game. The first 1,903 fans will receive a Beavers military cap on a Fred Meyer Super Giveaway Saturday. After the game, three high school sluggers from the Portland area will have a shot at joining the American Family Insurance All-Star Home Run Derby at PGE Park on July 13.

Sunday, May 24 Fire Safety Day - Beavers vs. Nashville - 2:05 p.m. Portland closes its four-game set against the Sounds with Fire Safety Day at PGE Park on an American Family Insurance Kids Sunday. Smokey the Bear will be on hand to hand out fire safety information and baseballs to the first 1,000 kids 12 and under. Prior to the first pitch, kids can take advantage of the Beavers' new Kids-Eat-Free plan, play catch on the field and get player autographs. After the game, kids are invited to run the bases at PGE Park, presented by Family Fun Center and Bullwinkle's Restaurant.

Monday, May 25 Memorial Day - Beavers vs. Memphis - 2:05 p.m. Enjoy the long weekend with an afternoon at the ballpark as the Beavers begin a four-game series against the Redbirds on a Home Run Derby Monday presented by American Family Insurance. Take part in the season-long MLB 2K9 tourney and earn a shot to play in the championship round at the end of the season.

Tuesday, May 26 Fred Meyer $4 Tuesday - Beavers vs. Memphis - 7:05 p.m. The Beavers entertain the Redbirds on a Fred Meyer $4 Tuesday. During the day, 200 general admission tickets will be available for $4 through the PGE Park box office and Ticketmaster outlets at local Fred Meyer locations.

Wednesday, May 27 US Bank Art & Science of Baseball School Day presented by Intel - Beavers vs. Memphis - 11:05 a.m. The Beavers host their third US Bank Art & Science of Baseball School Day presented by Intel of the season. Portland-area kids can experience a day of fun and learning at PGE Park, featuring hands-on exhibits and a special pre-game presentation from OMSI starting at 9 a.m. On a Win-Win Wednesday, kids in attendance receive an official Beavers US Bank School Day hat. If the Beavers pull off a victory over the Redbirds, each fan in attendance can redeem their ticket for entry into a future Sunday-Wednesday Beavers home game.

Thursday, May 28 Keep Portland Weird Night / Miller Lite Thursday - Beavers vs. Memphis - 7:05 p.m. The Beavers celebrate all things Portland on Keep Portland Weird Night on a Miller Lite Thursday at PGE Park as they round out their eight game homestand. The final game of the series between the Beavers and Redbirds will be televised live on FSN.
