Orange County SC News Release
Orange County SC today announced that the club is set to launch its first virtual EA Sports FIFA 21 video game tournament in partnership with the OCSC Community Foundation. All tournament proceeds will support the Foundation's efforts to assist Orange County families negatively affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. OCSC was the first team in the United Soccer League to start an eSports division and has participated in a variety of EA Sports FIFA online leagues since 2018. "As a lifelong FIFA gamer dating back to the early 1990's, I am thrilled to bring this first annual OCSC Virtual Tournament to our fans and FIFA players in partnership with the OCSC Community Foundation," said Orange County SC Owner and CEO James Keston. "Soccer is the world's game... and EA's FIFA Soccer is the world's video game, enjoyed by tens of millions of soccer fans and gaming fans across the globe. Let the games begin!"
FIFA players and Orange County SC fans across the globe can sign up for the tournament beginning Monday, March 15th. Tournament participants will have the opportunity to compete against Orange County SC players and staff as well as a number of special guests. Three special guests will be revealed at a later date and will join the tournament in the second, third, and quarterfinal rounds.
Participants must be 18 or older to register for the tournament. The registration window will close on Monday, March 29th. On that day, Orange County SC will randomly select tournament participants. Once selected, an entry fee of $30 will go towards supporting the OCSC Community Foundation.
"The OCSC Community Foundation utilizes soccer as a vehicle to help people throughout Orange County. Following the great success of our first year, we are eager to find innovative ways to engage our community and to fundraise so that we can continue the work we've been doing," said Executive Director Lisa Keston. "OCSC's FIFA Tournament is a fun, competitive way to help bring in necessary donations to assist local OC communities as we recover from the COVID-19 pandemic."
Orange County SC's tournament is scheduled to begin on Monday, April 5th, at 5:00 p.m. PT. Select matchups will be streamed live on Twitch. The tournament will be open to PS4 and Xbox One users. Participants must be 18 or older and can register here. Prizes for the top finishers and raffles for viewers will be valued at over $5,000.
