IRVINE, Calif. (April 12, 2015) - Orange County Blues FC had a successful second home game as they earned a victory over Vancouver Whitecaps FC 2 with a final score of 2-0.

The beginning of the match consisted of many missed chances for both sides but neither team could finish any of their opportunities. The first chance on goal for the Blues was in the 10th minute of play when Denzel Slager centered a ball to Christofer Ramirez, who kicked it over the crossbar.

The Blues frontline pressured the Whitecaps FC 2 goal for much of the match. Rookie Nikola Ilich earned his first start for Orange County and had an excellent shot on goal in the 26th minute, but it also sailed over the goal.

WFC2's Caleb Clarke tried to get into the Blues goal early in the first half, but the Blues' back line cleared the ball before he was able to take a shot on Jose "Pepe" Miranda. In the 34th minute, WFC2 lost a player when Ethen Sampson received his second yellow card and was ejected from the match. Sampson was reprimanded for what looked like a stamp on Romeo Filipovic after the Blues defender slid to clear out the ball.

After a scoreless first half, the Blues opened up the scoreboard after about 15 minutes in the second. Forward Denzel Slager outran a 'Caps defender to center a pass to Didier Crettenand, who slotted the ball into the net.

WFC2 upped the pressure during the last minutes of the match as they got closer to the Blues goal, but the defensive line was relentless to hold firm. The visitors got close to equalize off a corner kick, but Miranda stopped the header from going in.

The Blues scored their second goal in 2nd half stoppage time when Chris Cortez beat his man on the break, and found Amani Walker who finished cleanly and sealed the victory for Orange County.

The Blues go to 1-1-0 on the season, earning their first three points of the season. Next up, the Blues host Arizona United SC this coming Saturday, April 18th at 7PM.
