Open and shutout case

Stockton Thunder News Release


STOCKTON, Calif. - The Stockton Thunder (5-8-3, 13 pts) opened Stockton Arena with a shutout victory in front of a sold out crowd of 10,117, winning 4-0 over the Phoenix RoadRuners (7-11-2, 16 pts). Jake Moreland stopped all 22 shots he faced, posting the first shutout in Stockton Thunder history. Steve Slonina also came up big for the Thunder, scoring two goals in the victory.

The Thunder started the scoring with a power play goal at 7:51 in the first period by Mike Lalonde, the first goal in Stockton Arena history. Assisting on the goal were Maris Ziedins and Geno Parish. Tony Johnson added another at 12:38 on a slap-shot just inside the blue line, beating RoadRunners goaltender Michael Mole for his first goal with the Thunder.

In the second period, Stockton picked up one more goal to extend their lead to 3-0. Steve Slonina scored the first just 31 seconds into the period, finishing off a 2-on-1 rush with Maris Ziedins.

Slonina added a second tally for himself, scoring the teams fourth goal of the evening 2:38 into the final period. Slonina score, his 11th goal of the season was unassisted, coming on a breakaway.
