Ontario Fury Re-Sign Team MVP Salles
March 9, 2016 - Major Arena Soccer League (MASL)
Ontario Fury News Release
The Ontario Fury, Driven by Mark Christopher Chevrolet, have signed their 2015-16 Most Valuable Player Mauricio Salles to return for the 2016-17 season.
The native of Salvador, Bahia, Brazil, led the Fury with 30 goals and 46 points in the 2015-16 season, placing him fourth in the league in total points. His 16 assists were second on the team. In total, he fired a team record 138 shots on goal, becoming the first member of the Fury to surpass the century mark in total shots on goal.
"Mauricio is the definition of a true professional in my opinion. His drive and play was an important part of our on-field success this season," said Fury president and coach Bernie Lilavois. "To be able to score as much as he did with opponents building defenses to stop him shows the world-class ability he possesses. We are glad he will be returning to the Inland Empire as we begin the process in building our team for next season."
In the two seasons in the Major Arena Soccer League, Sales has amassed 71 goals along with 32 assists, having played the previous season for Rochester. In three MISL seasons with Rochester, he scored 78 goals and had 41 assists.
"Although I'm very disappointed in the way our season ended with us not making the playoffs, I'm very happy that Coach Bernie wants me to return next season," Salles said. "I want to thank Coach for believing in me and I want to thank all of the fans for their support this season. I will be working hard this offseason to make sure we give our great fans the winning team they deserve."
