
Oneonta defeats Vermont 5-0

BURLINGTON, VT --- The Oneonta Tigers continued to have success on the road, while the Vermont Expos continued to struggle at Centennial Field as Oneonta defeated Vermont 5-0 on Saturday night in New York-Penn League action.
With the victory on Saturday night, the Tigers (11-10) are now 8-1 on the road and just 3-9 at home. The 8-1 road record includes wins in the first two of this three-game series with Vermont (9-13), which has lost its last three home games to fall to 3-6 this season at Centennial Field.
A pitchers duel over the first seven innings, the Tigers took a 1-0 lead in the fifth on a one-out single from Bo Flowers, a stolen base and RBI single from Robert Tulk. The game stayed 1-0 until the top of the eighth when Oneonta scored three times for a 4-0 lead and then added a fifth run in the ninth on Rafael Mendez's second home run of the year.
Oneonta starter Nate Bumstead allowed one hit with three walks and seven strikeouts over the first four innings, while Tony Peralta earned the win with three innings of one-hit relief. Expos starter Steven Cook (0-3) picked up his third loss in as many starts, despite allowing just one run three hits with no walks and six strikeouts over five innings.
Brooks Colvin was 2-for-4 with a run, while six other Tigers added a singe hit. Vermont, which has lost three straight games, was shutout for the second time this year. David Travis had two of the Expos six hits in the game.
Vermont and Oneonta will wrap up the three-game series on Sunday evening at Centennial Field with A.J. Wideman getting the start for the Expos. Following the 5:05 p.m. game will be "Have A Catch" on the field and fans are encouraged to bring their gloves to play catch.
