Rochester Americans News Release

(Rochester, NY)... Rochester Americans Vice President of Hockey Operations Ted Nolan announced today that left winger Steve MacIntyre has cleared waivers and will now join the Rochester Americans.

MacIntyre was claimed off waivers on Tuesday by the Florida Panthers and then sent to Rochester. MacIntyre was claimed after being placed on waivers by the Edmonton Oilers, which is the same team that claimed the rugged winger last year when the Panthers attempted to send him to Rochester.

The 6-5, 250-pound MacIntyre, who topped 200 penalty minutes in five of his six AHL seasons, signed as a free agent on July 3, 2008, but was claimed off waivers by Edmonton two months later. The Amerks are excited about the addition of MacIntyre even though its 13 months later than first expected.

"When we did our research last June 18th he was one of the first players we asked for," said Amerks Owner and CEO Curt Styres. "He is a good fit for the Rochester Americans and we are glad he is joining our team."

MacIntyre had two goals in 22 games last season for the Oilers. In four games this season, he recorded seven penalty minutes. In his pro career, the 29 year old has 34 points (14+20) and 1,727 PIM in 413 games. In his American Hockey League career, he has played in 92 games with teams in Hartford and Providence.

The Amerks return to action tonight as they take on the Portland Pirates in search of a franchise-record 12 straight wins. The 7:00 p.m. contest will be played at HSBC Arena. The game will be carried live on SportsRadio 1280 WHTK and FM 107.3, Rochester's Sports Talk.
