Winston-Salem Dash News Release
SALEM, VA - The Dash and Red Sox split a pair of games on Saturday night at Salem Memorial Ballpark. Salem won the continuation of a game that was suspended on August 18 2-0, while Winston-Salem took the regularly scheduled contest 3-1.
The Red Sox (29-36, 71-64) entered the suspended game with a 1-0 lead in the top of the fourth. Salem added one more in the top of the sixth inning on an Adalberto Ibarra sacrifice fly. The Dash (37-29) offense was held to one hit after the re-start and failed to score.
Zach Hammes (3-3) pitched four scoreless innings to pick up the win. Dylan Axelrod (8-3) did not pitch on Saturday, but because he started the game and gave up an unearned run, was charged with his third loss.
In the second game, Winston-Salem notched a pair of runs in the second inning to take a 2-0 lead. Seth Loman walked and Nick Ciolli followed with a double. Ozzie Lewis drove in one run with a groundout and later Andrew Garcia hit a sacrifice fly to bring home the second run against Caleb Clay (4-13).
Jose Martinez made it a 3-0 lead in the fifth inning on a sacrifice fly.
In the bottom of the sixth, Mitch Dening doubled against Stephen Sauer (8-10) and scored on a Daniel Butler base hit to narrow Winston's lead to two.
Tyson Corley entered in the ninth inning and got three ground ball outs to collect his tenth save. Sauer was the winner, scattering one run on six hits and no walks over six innings.
The loss went to Clay, who also pitched six innings and gave up three runs on six hits.
Despite the game one loss, the Dash still was able to extend its win streak to nine games. Because the game was a suspended game, it was recorded as a game played on August 18, well before Winston-Salem began its current win streak.
The Dash and Red Sox continue their long series with a doubleheader on Sunday afternoon. First pitch is scheduled for 2:05 p.m. and the audio broadcast begins at 1:45 on www.wsdash.com.
Fans may purchase tickets for every Dash game this season by calling the Dash at (336) 714-2287 or visiting www.wsdash.com.
