One Swing Wins It Again for T-Bones, 3-1

August 27, 2005 - Northern League (NL)
Kansas City Monarchs News Release

Last night it was Rafael Rodriguez hitting a three-run homer for the only Kansas City T-Bone runs in a 3-2 win over the Sioux Falls Canaries. Tonight, it was Gabby Delgado hammering a three-run homer to left in the fifth inning to stake David Viane to a 3-1 lead. That proved to be all the T-Bones would need to win in front of a record crowd of 9,013 at CommunityAmerica Ballpark in Kansas City, Kan.

Delgado's blast, which came with two outs in the fifth inning against Canary starter Mike Rodriguez (L, 3-7), came with runners on second and third. It was Delgado's second homer as a T-Bone; both have been three-run blasts.

Sioux Falls got on the board first with an RBI groundout by former T-Bone Les Norman in the first inning. Norman's groundout scored Jonny Kaplan, who had walked and advanced to second on a throwing error by right fielder Greg Jacobs. Norman's groundout started a string of nine Canaries retired in order, and twelve of thirteen set down, by Viane (W, 8-6).

The Canaries mounted a threat in the eighth inning, loading the bases with none out. But Alex Llanos hammered a liner that Delgado snagged high above the ground, and Delgado doubled Marcus Nettles off second base to stifle the threat.

Mike Cosgrove (S, 2) struck out two of the three batters he faced in the ninth inning to earn his second save of the season and second in as many nights.

Notes: The crowd was an all-time high, besting the crowd of 8,510 set last August 28... former Royal Al Fitzmorris' band "39" played to a large crowd after the game... fans in attendance set off "Jet Balloons" to create a huge noise at the seventh inning stretch.
