Schaumburg Gets First Win Against Cracker-Cats

SCHAUMBURG, IL - The Schaumburg Flyers scored 13 runs and banged out 19 hits on their way to a 13-5 victory over the Edmonton Cracker-Cats at Alexian Field on Saturday night. The Flyers are now 19-22 in the second half and 35-54 overall. The Cracker-Cats drop to 20-20 and 42-46 overall. A crowd of 7,275 was on hand to see the Flyers beat the expansion Cracker-Cats for the first time and snap a five-game losing streak. The 19 hits are the most in one game by the Flyers this season.

The Flyers got off to a hot start and had a 6-0 lead after two innings. Josue Lopez had a two-out, two-run single in the first. Justin Hendrickson drove in two with two down in the second. Edmonton starter Keith Black (3-7) was lifted before he recorded an out in the second inning. He was charged with six runs, all of them earned.

Hendrickson had an RBI single in the fourth off Cracker-Cats reliever Brandon Tam. The Flyers scored three in the inning to extend the lead to 9-0. Schaumburg starter Blake Williams (3-6) gave up only two hits through four innings. The Cracker-Cats got to him in the fifth, putting five runs on the board. Chris Hall hit a solo home run to left with one out. After two singles and a run-scoring error, Aharon Eggleston delivered a three-run homer to right field.

Schaumburg pushed another run across in the sixth against Tam on an RBI single by Hendrickson. Ryan Murphy came on and pitched the final 2.2 innings for Edmonton. The Flyers had five hits in the seventh and got RBI singles from Ted Ledbetter and Oscar Materano. Chris Weekly led off the eighth inning with a solo homer to right center.

Flyers relievers held Edmonton to three hits over the final four innings. Nate Cotton struck out the side in the eighth and worked a perfect ninth with another strikeout. The final nine Edmonton batters were retired in order.

Hendrickson was 3-for-5 with four RBI. Jarrod Patterson had four hits and scored twice. Ryan Walker also went 4-for-5 with two runs scored. It was the first four-hit game with the Flyers for both players.

Lincoln lost at Winnipeg on Saturday night. The Flyers are now 5.5 games out of first place in the South Division.

NOTES: Hendrickson was named the Wyatt Austin Jewelers Player of the Year following the game...He currently leads the Northern League with 28 home runs...All nine Flyers starters had hits for the second night in a row...Weekly's home run was his first since July 29 and first at Alexian Field since June 26...Eric Cole doubled in the seventh after going hitless in his last nine games...The Flyers are now 1-4 against Edmonton this season...
