On Celebratory Night, 10-Man United Earn Hard Fought Point
July 25, 2021 - United Soccer League Championship (USL)
New Mexico United News Release
Albuquerque, NM - On a night when they were down to ten men for half an hour, New Mexico United battled hard to earn a point against rivals El Paso Locomotive FC. United midfielder Juan Pablo Guzman was issued a second yellow card in the 66th minute, after referee Greg Dopka ruled that Guzman's hand was in an unnatural position on a handball near mid-pitch. Guzman's first yellow came in the 26th minute after a tackle from behind the opponent.
Alex Tambakis and the back line earned their fourth clean sheet of the season in the draw, as standout performances from Tambakis, Austin Yearwood, Kalen Ryden and Rashid Tetteh, as well as excellent play after being subbed on from Justin Schmidt made the difference in earning a point for the Black & Yellow.
Before the match and at halftime, United Owner/President Peter Trevisani and Albuquerque Mayor Tim Keller announced that Albuquerque City Council will vote on a proposal to put stadium funding on the November ballot. That proposal comes on the heels of the publication of a stadium feasibility study and identification of two preferred potential stadium sites in downtown Albuquerque.
Tonight's attendance was 10,303 - United's highest of the season.
