Oklahoma Warriors News Release
OKLAHOMA CITY - Mary Anne Choi became the first woman owner to win a Tier-II Junior Hockey League Regular Season Title when the Oklahoma Warriors clinched the top spot in the North American Hockey League Saturday.
To say the Oklahoma Warriors have had a successful first season in Oklahoma would be an understatement. From winning its first four games at the league-wide showcase, through a 15-game win streak to begin 2023 and culminating Saturday when it became the 2022-23 NAHL Regular Season Champions, the team has prospered. However, it isn't just the on-ice results that make the Oklahoma Warriors the front-runners of the North American Hockey League.
The organization has been breaking barriers in junior hockey since its inception, when Mary Anne Choi became the first woman of minority descent to own a junior hockey team.
Mary Anne created the team with a goal in mind- to do things the right way and be the best team in the league.
While the former has been true off the ice, the latter was realized when the Warriors solidified the top seed in the 2023 Robertson Cup Playoffs Saturday.
Dominant only begins to describe the team's performance since beginning play in Oklahoma, where the group boasts a NAHL-best record of 22-5-1-0 at home, and 42-12-1-1 overall.
The Warriors are gearing up for a long playoff run toward the Robertson Cup after securing more wins than any other team in the 29-team league with still four games remaining.
Oklahoma's Number 1 offense averages over 4 goals per game, and the team has allowed the second fewest goals out of all other teams as well, cementing its place near the top of every category, offensively and defensively.
The Warriors finish the regular season on the road, but have one final home weekend at Blazers Ice Centre when they host the El Paso Rhinos for 7:15 p.m. puck drops Friday April 7, and Saturday, April 8. Tickets to the final home series of the regular season can be purchased through the team website, https://www.oklahomawarriors.com/individual-game-tickets, and playoff tickets will go on sale to the public Thursday, April 6.
