Tulsa Oilers News Release

Tulsa-The Tulsa Oilers strong regular season push and playoff run have earned the team's head coach, Butch Kaebel, another couple of seasons behind the bench. The Oilers and Kaebel officially agreed on terms to a two year contract this weekend ensuring the second year coach will become a third year man in 2005-06.

"In a lot of ways, once the season is over there is as much work to do as during the season. With recruiting and shaping next year's team, I'm just glad this is one less thing I have to think about," said Kaebel, who led the Oilers to their first playoff appearance since 2001.

General Manager Corey MacIntyre echoed the coach's sentiment, "There was never any doubt Butch would be back with us for the next season... you can't have the kind of success we had this year and think otherwise, but it is nice to get it out of the way so we can all concentrate on other things."

In 98 games coaching the Oilers, Kaebel is 47-41-10. This season Tulsa finished second in the Northwest Division of the Central Hockey League with 67 points, qualifying for the playoffs, losing in five games to the Northern Conference champions Colorado Eagles. Against rival Oklahoma City, Kaebel is 11-4-1 since taking over the team Christmas Day, 2003.

"This is a fluid business... players and coaches come and go, Tulsa has a great tradition of hanging on to both, I'm just happy that I can be part of that tradition. Hopefully we can keep building on that for next season by making the 2005-2006 team a championship one," added Kaebel.

Kaebel is the Oilers sixth head coach since 1992, when the CHL was reformed.
