CHL Leads "AA" Leagues in Average Attendance, Again

Published on April 25, 2005 under Central Hockey League (CHL) News Release

With an average attendance of 4,478 per game during the 2004-2004 season, the Central Hockey League has once again finished atop the average attendance standings for all "AA" minor professional leagues in North America. This marks the fourth consecutive regular season that the CHL has led in average attendance, finishing well above 4,000 fans per game in each season.

The Central Hockey League's Oklahoma City Blazers routinely lead all "AA" teams in average attendance, and did so again this season, welcoming 8,245 fans per game to the Ford Center. Four other CHL clubs finished among the top 12, including both Laredo and Colorado, who will meet Tuesday in Game 1 of the 2004-2005 Ray Miron President's Cup Finals. Laredo ranked fourth with an average of 6,206 fans per game at the Laredo Entertainment Center, while Colorado ranked 10th, extending their regular season sell-out streak to 62 games at the Budweiser Events Center. The Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs finished seventh in average attendance at 5,423, including a CHL season high crowd of 12,430 on January 28th at the CenturyTel Center. Rounding out the top dozen "AA" teams in attendance were the Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees, with a per game average of 5,171 at the Dodge Arena.

In the post-season, the CHL again is at the top of the average attendance charts, and is poised to lead all "AA" minor professional leagues in North America for the third time in four seasons. The CHL's current average playoff attendance is 4,310, which is expected to rise significantly with Laredo and Colorado appearing in the Finals. Laredo has welcomed an average of 5,883 during six home playoff games, including a sell-out of 8,002 on April 7th, while in Colorado, all five Eagles playoff games have reached full capacity at 5,289.

"We commend the diligent efforts of all our General Managers and ticketing staff employees, whose work has maintained our position as attendance leaders," said CHL President Brad Treliving. "We also owe a special thank you to our highly devoted fans for their patronage and support throughout the entire season."
