Oilers Helping Fans Learn the Game with Hockey 101 Class at Top That Pizza

TULSA, OK - If you've ever watched a hockey game, chances are you've asked yourself, 'Why did the referee blow his whistle there?' or 'what's the difference between roughing and fighting?' or perhaps, 'how do the players know when to get off the ice and jump back on the ice?'. These are all common queries from the casual hockey fan, but even the seasoned hockey connoisseur can be befuddled by rules, equipment, and especially strategy.

To help fans gain a better understanding of all facets of the sport, the Tulsa Oilers are holding a Hockey 101 clinic on Wednesday, September 3 at Top That Pizza in Broken Arrow (2435 W. Kenosha). In this free class open to all ages, Oilers' Head Coach Bruce Ramsay will explain the basics of hockey from positions to formations to penalties, power plays, and everything in between. An Oilers' player (to be announced) will give a detailed equipment demonstration by showcasing every piece of protection worn on the ice and discussing skate sharpening, stick taping, and why players are so particular about the tools of their trade.

Hockey 101 will also include a question and answer session. No matter what you've been confused about in the past, Hockey 101 will help you think like a coach, give you a better appreciation for what the players go through, and at the end of the night, you'll walk away as a more knowledgeable hockey fan.

Topics will include:

- Basic Rules of Hockey

- Penalties

- Common Terms and Slang Terms

- Equipment

- Strategy

Space is limited so show up early to claim your seats. Each person in attendance will be entered into a drawing to win Oilers prizes and merchandise.
