Tulsa Oilers News Release
he good old days will return the Tulsa Oilers Ice Center again on Saturday August 29th at 7 p.m. for the second annual Oilers alumni game.
Former Oiler players, coaches and staff members will gather for an exhibition game and chance to rekindle memories with fans. The Oilers Ice Center is located at 64th and Mingo. "We knew last year's game would be a huge hit with the fans like it was, and we were really happy with the reaction from the alumni players. They really had a good time and wanted to do it again," Oilers general manager Taylor Hall said. "The response from players this year has been tremendous."
Hall said the Oilers expect more representatives from the "old CHL" (circa 1964-84) as well as several returning players from the revitalized CHL in 1992. Among them are the current CHL director of hockey operations, Jim Wiley.
Wiley a former head coach of the National Hockey League's San Jose Sharks, played four seasons for the Oilers in the late 1970's. He scored 91 goals for the Oilers before embarking on his coaching career, and now as one of the key administrators for the CHL. Other players from the previous CHL expected to participate include Don MacIver, Larry Hopkins and Larry McIntyre. Hall also said it's possible former Oilers player and coach of the 1992-93 CHL championship team Garry Unger will be on hand for the game. Unger recently underwent his second knee replacement. The three living players who have had their jerseys retired by the Oilers, Doug Lawrence, Luc Beausoleil and Mike Berger are all expected to return again this year. Tickets for this year's alumni game are $10 in advance for Oilers season ticket holders, $20 for non-season ticket holders. All tickets at the door will be $20. The admission will include the postgame party with the players. Tickets can be purchased by calling the Oilers, and Hall encourages fans to get their tickets early. Season tickets for the Oilers 2009-10 season in the BOK Center are available by calling the Oilers at (918) 632-PUCK (7825).
