Amarillo Gorillas News Release

Amarillo, TX 7/29/09 - The Amarillo Gorillas have signed two additional Hobart College products in defenseman Andy Brennan and forward Shawn Houde for the 2009-10 season.

Brennan played four years at Hobart, finishing with 12 goals and 51 assists over his career. As a senior, Brennan earned second-team All-American honors, while helping the Statesman reach the Division III Frozen Four twice in his four year career.

"Andy is a defenseman who has tremendous vision. He has the ability to make the first pass out of the defensive zone," remarked Gorillas Head Coach Brian Pellerin. "That skill alone makes him a valuable asset to our club."

The Milford, Massachusetts (located 40 miles West of Boston, MA) native was a teammate at Hobart College and grew up in the same city as current Gorillas goaltender Keith Longo. "When I heard (Longo) was looking at the same team, I knew we were going to have great goaltending," expressed Brennan, who calls his relationship with Longo a "lifetime friendship".

In four seasons with the Statesman, Shawn Houde (pronounced HOOD) earned 44 goals over 91 games. The Manchester, New Hampshire native played three games last season for the Johnstown Chiefs of the ECHL, scoring 3 points over those 3 games.

"Shawn is a young player that is going to come in and have an opportunity to push for a spot," expressed Pellerin. "His numerous team awards at Hobart speak to how talented this young man is."

Houde won Hobart's ‘Holden Award' for character, sportsmanship, and leadership. He also shared the team's ‘Boswell Award' as the team's most valuable player with current Gorillas goaltender Keith Longo.

Brennan and Houde join defensemen Neil Smith and James Jernberg, goaltenders Keith Longo and Tuomas Lohtander along with forwards David Nimmo, Austin Sutter, Gordon Bell, Joe Guenther, and Patrick Connelly for the 2009-2010 season.
