Oil Kings' 13th Home Game Unlucky

Edmonton, AB - It was only fitting that Wednesday's game between the Edmonton Oil Kings and Prince Albert Raiders at Rexall Place was the Oil Kings' 13th home game of the season, because they were nothing but unlucky all night.

The Oil Kings hit three posts during the third period and a crossbar during the shootout, as the Raiders prevailed with a 5-4 victory. Edmonton outshot Prince Albert 46-37 and earned a valuable point to up their record to 11-14-0-2. The single point bumped them into a three-way tie with the Raiders and Brandon Wheat Kings for eighth in the Eastern Conference.

Riding a three-game winning streak into Wednesday's action, the Oil Kings dominated the opening 20 minutes, taking a 2-0 lead into the first intermission, as Jordan Hickmott and T.J. Foster each found the back of the net. The Raiders scored four straight goals after that, though, as Igor Revenko (PPG), Andrew Herle (SHG), Sebastian Svendsen and Justin Maylan beat goalie Jon Groenheyde to make it 4-2 eight minutes into the third.

Despite Stephane Legault, Travis Ewanyk and Mark Pysyk all hitting the left post early on in the third period, the Oil Kings kept battling and scored a pair of goals in the final 10 minutes to force overtime. Josh Lazowski tallied a power-play goal with a squeaker through goalie Jamie Tucker's five-hole, and Legault buried a rebound into a wide-open Raiders net to make it 4-4.

Both teams had chances to win it in OT, as Hickmott was denied point blank by Tucker's glove, and the Raiders spent the final 1:29 on a four-on-three power play, but neither squad managed to score. Michael St. Croix, Dylan Wruck and Lazowski (crossbar) were all denied in the breakaway battle, while Mark McNeill scored the lone goal on Groenheyde to give the Raiders the win.

The Oil Kings' next game is also on home ice as they host the Brandon Wheat Kings on Friday at 7 p.m. at Rexall Place, and with so many kings in the building, it will be Salute To Elvis Night, with live performances from The King himself throughout the evening. Edmonton takes on the Calgary Hitmen on Wednesday at 7 p.m. at the Scotiabank Saddledome, and their next home game after that is Saturday, Dec. 11 against the Kelowna Rockets at 7 p.m., as it's Kids Eat Free Night.
