Offensive Struggles Continue for Sharks

July 18, 2019 - Coastal Plain League (Coastal Plain)
Wilmington Sharks News Release

Wilmington, North Carolina-The Wilmington Sharks were shut out for the second game in a row with a 3-0 loss to the Morehead City Marlins Thursday night at Buck Hardee Field. It was the third straight loss for the Sharks, dropping them to 6-5 in the second half of play.

With the game scoreless at the start of the ninth inning, Jake Reimold reached to begin the inning on a dropped popped fly by Sharks third baseman Cory Everett. It was Everett's third error of the game and the fifth error by the Sharks infield overall on the night. Ty Barclay advanced Reimold to second with a groundout. Tony Mack then entered the game to pinch run for Reimold and scored on a single by Daniel Little to break the scoreless tie. With two outs and Little on second, the Sharks intentionally walked Dusty Baker. Blaze Glenn then came up and hit a two-run double to make it 3-0.

Offensively, the Sharks were just held to two hits on the night. The hits were a lead off single by Jonah Beamon to begin the first and a lead off single by James Parker to begin the second. After Parker's single, the Marlins pitching staff faced the minimum until the ninth inning. In innings three through eight, the one base runner that the Sharks had was Chad Fairey who drew a walk in the fourth, but it was then erased by a double play to end the inning. In the Sharks third trip through the lineup, eight of the nine hitters struck out including the side in the eighth.

Despite the struggles, one of the bright spots from tonight's game for the Sharks was the pitching of starter Austin Parsley. Parsley pitched his second seven inning masterpiece this season. This time, he did not allow any runs, gave up only three hits, and struck out five. At one point, he retired eight hitters in a row.

The Sharks will be back in action Friday night against the Holly Springs Salamanders at Ting Stadium. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05PM.

The Sharks will return to the Shark Tank Saturday night for Star Wars night against the Wilson Tobs. Join the Dark Side and join us for a night full of baseball with your favorite Star Wars characters! The first 500 fans into the stadium will receive a Sharks poster. Stick around after the game for a Postgame Fireworks Extravaganza. Gates will open at 6:00PM for a 7:05PM first pitch.
