Lynchburg Hillcats News Release
Alex Buchholz extended his hitting streak and added three RBI and the Hillcats won the series finale over the Blue Rocks, 9-2. Buchholz's streak is now at 10 games.
The Cats got on the board first for the third time in this series. Neftali Soto hit a one-out double in the second inning and scored on Jose Gualdron's RBI double.
Matt Fairel made quick work of the Blue Rocks in the first three innings, setting down all nine hitters he faced. In the fourth, Wilmington scored twice. Adrian Ortiz led off with a triple and scored on Patrick Norris' infield single. Norris was later driven in by Rey Navarro.
But the Hillcats got the lead right back in the bottom of the same inning. Carlos Mendez led off the inning with a double and reached third on a wild pitch. Soto was hit by a pitch. Alex Buchholz drove in Mendez with a single, and Soto scored on a double play groundout by Gualdron.
Lynchburg scored two more in the sixth inning, again off the bat of Buchholz. Mendez and Soto led off the inning with singles, and Buchholz drove them in with a double down the left field line.
Cody Puckett homered in the seventh to add to the lead. It was his fifth of the season, and second of the series.
The Cats tagged on three more in the eighth. Kevyn Feiner drove in Buchholz, who reached on an error to lead off the inning. Devin Mesoraco doubled in two more runs in the inning. He extends his on-base streak to 26 games, tied for the longest in the Carolina League this season.
Fairel was exactly what the doctor ordered for the Hillcats. He tied his season-long with seven innings pitched. He gave up only two runs, all earned and struck out five.
Lynchburg heads on the road for six games at Winston-Salem and Myrtle Beach during the next week. The Hillcats and the Dash open up a three-game weekend set tomorrow night at 7 p.m. New Hillcat James Avery makes his first start of the season against Winston-Salem's Stephen Sauer (3-1, 5.30).
