Salem, VA-The Salem Avalanche, Class A-Advanced affiliate of the Houston Astros, led briefly Sunday afternoon but saw Myrtle Beach score the final five runs in a 10-6 victory on Lewis-Gale Medical Center Field at Salem Memorial Baseball Stadium. Five separate players drove runs in for the Pelicans (18-12) against the Avalanche (13-16).

Myrtle opened the scoring in the first against Salem starter Corey Bass with a solo home run from Brandon Hicks, RBI double by Ernesto Mejia and run-scoring single off the bat of Brandon Powell. In the home half of the inning, though, the Avs recouped two runs as Tim Torres tripled Jordan Parraz home and Torres came across on a Jhon Florentino sacrifice fly.

Salem then evened the game in the fourth with two out. Mark Ori stood on second when newcomer Nick Moresi rolled a ball between Brandon Powell's legs at third into left field. Ori scored on the play and leveled the score at three.

After Myrtle scored twice in its next chance, Salem grabbed the lead in the bottom of the fifth. The first two batters, Parraz and Torres, walked and reached second and third on an error by the pitcher Lopez. Back-to-back singles by Florentino and Ori brought the runs across. Then, Koby Clemens's sacrifice fly scored Florentino for the lead. On the play, Ori was thrown out at first to end the inning.

Myrtle, though, scored the final five runs of the game against the Salem bullpen. In the seventh, three straight singles-the last by Concepcion Rodriguez--scored Willie Cabrera to deadlock the score at six. Two batters later, Brandon Hicks grounded out to score Phillip Britton. The Pelicans later scored a run in the eighth and two in the ninth to finish the victory.

The Pelicans got four hits from designated hitter Phillip Britton and home runs from Brandon Hicks and Willie Cabrera. Myrtle Beach totaled seven homers in the four-game series.

Salem hits the road for a three-game series with Wilmington starting at 6:35 PM Monday. Lefty David Qualben tosses for Salem against Blue Rock starter Jason Godin.
