Offense Rules! Roosters Explode For 19 Runs

RICHMOND, IN – The Richmond Roosters (5-0) continued their hot start on Sunday afternoon exploding for 19 runs in their 19-4 drubbing of the Washington Wild Things (1-4) at McBride Stadium. CF Phil Willingham went 4-for-5 with three RBI to lead the way for the Roosters. The Roosters took their first lead of the game on Willingham's two-run single in the third inning and never looked back.

SS John Tavares broke the game wide open in the sixth inning with a grand slam, his first homerun of the season. The Roosters added nine more runs in the seventh just for good measure. All but three Roosters batters had RBI's with 3B Blake Leverett driving in three, 1B/manager Fran Riordan and RF Raul Cruz Jr. both driving in two more runs.

RHP Mike Kraemer (1-0) picked up his first win of the season pitching six innings and giving up only three runs while striking out seven batters. LHP Mark Hickey made his debut for the Roosters pitching two innings giving up only one unearned run. RHP Mark Taylor finished the game in the eighth.

LHP Jason Hickman (0-1) got the loss for the Wild Things giving up six runs in three innings. RHP Kevin Kuklis and RHP Fred Wray both gave up six earned runs before RHP Dan Valentin stopped the bleeding. 1B Travis Copley and RF Casey Stone each drove in two runs.

The Roosters and the Wild Things wrap up their three game series Monday night at 6:35 PM. Fans will have a chance to win some great prizes during Roosters Baseball Bingo on Monday night. Opening Day winner Rich Jelovcic (1-0) gets the start for the Roosters. He will face the Wild Things RHP Matt Baber (0-1). Gates open at 5:35 PM. Tickets are available by calling (765) 935-PLAY.
