COMSTOCK PARK - Daniel Guerrero pitched for Dayton on Sunday in place of Jordan Smith, whose start was pushed back to Tuesday. It turned out to be a good decision for the Dragons. After he allowed two homers and three runs in the second inning, Guerrero finished by retiring the last 12 batters he faced in a 9-3 victory over the Whitecaps.

The loss ended a streak of eight wins in a row for West Michigan over Dayton.

Jeramy Laster led off the second inning with his team-leading 16th home run of the season. Following a single by Santo De Leon, Michael Bertram hit a two-run shot to right and the ‘Caps led 3-0.

However, Dayton rallied for two runs in the third and four in the fifth off West Michigan starter Jeff Gerbe to claim a 6-3 lead.

Reliever Zach Piccola allowed two more Dragons runs in the seventh and Luis Marte surrendered an earned run as a reliever for the first time in a Whitecaps uniform when Dayton added another tally in the ninth.

Guerrero pitched six innings to earn the win and Kevin Gunter gave up one hit in three innings of relief to earn his second save.

Carson Kainer went 4-for-5 for the Dragons with three RBI. Logan Parker was 3-for-4 with a double, 2 RBI, 2 runs scored and a walk.
