Lansing Lugnuts News Release
LANSING - The Lansing Lugnuts took their fourth straight decision Sunday afternoon with an 8-7 win over the Great Lakes Loons before 5,102 fans at Oldsmobile Park.
Lansing trailed 1-0 in the second before taking the lead on a Brian Pettway two-run double, as he narrowly missed a homer by hitting the top of the outfield fence.
The Lugnuts added to the advantage in the next frame by batting around and plating five runs in the process.
With two men on, Travis Snider smacked a triple into right-center field that brought home Scott Campbell and Chris Emanuele to make it a 4-1 game. Snider was then driven home on a Jonathan Jaspe single to extend the advantage to 5-1. After a Sean Shoffit walk, Paul Franko hit a fly ball to right that was lost in the sun by James Peterson. The misplay allowed two runs to score which put Lansing ahead 7-1.
Great Lakes put a run on the board in the top of the fourth only to see Lansing quickly answer in the bottom half of the frame when Snider crushed a solo home run to right-center to make it 8-2.
The Loons were able to add another run in the sixth before finally breaking through with three in the eighth. The first two runs crossed on a Preston Mattingly triple that cut the lead to 8-5. Matt Berezay's RBI groundout scored Mattingly to make it an 8-6 affair.
The Loons rallied in the ninth for an additional run, but left two men on to end the game.
Ron Lowe (2-1) got the win for Lansing by throwing three innings of relief and allowing two runs.
Po-Hsuan Keng got his sixth save of the year by throwing the ninth.
Lansing (71-60, 36-26) will try to complete the sweep of Great Lakes (53-77, 19-41) on Monday evening. Kyle Ginley (6-6, 4.87) will take the hill for Lansing, while Kyle Smit (0-3, 5.52) will hurl for Great lakes. First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m.
