Offense Explodes in Everett as Bears Win 10-6
August 25, 2011 - Northwest League (NWL1)
Yakima Bears News Release
The Yakima Bears defeated the Everett Aquasox 10-6 Wednesday night at Everett Memorial Stadium in the opening game of a five-game series. The Bears have now won four straight games and pulled within three games of the Northwest League East Division leading Tri-City Dust Devils.
The Bears scored a run in the first inning with a lead-off double from Westley Moss and, eventually, an RBI-groundout from Jimmy Comerota.
That lead was erased in the bottom of the first inning, when the first three Aquasox batters reached to load the bases and then all three scored on a Jabari Blash double.
All those early Aquasox runs were scored off of Bears starter Blake Perry, who made his Northwest League debut in the game. Perry would allow just two more hits and one more run in his final three innings of work.
Perry got plenty more offensive support. After Comerota singled to score Jae Yun Kim in the third, the Bears sent eight men to the plate and scored five runs in the fourth.
Teo Gutierrez took over on the mound for the Bears from there. Gutierrez, who improved to 4-3 with the win, tossed four no-hit shutout innings before giving up three hits and two runs in the ninth.
The Bears managed to score a run in the fifth and two in the ninth while Gutierrez was dealing.
The offense produced 15 hits in the game, as eight players got at least one hit and six finished with a multi-hit game. Tyler Bream finished 3-for-5 with three runs batted in, while Comerota went 2-for-4 with four RBIs. The Bears also worked five walks in the game.
The Bears will try for a fifth straight win Thursday. Game time between the Bears and Aquasox at Everett Memorial Stadium is scheduled for 7:05. Venezuelan right-handed pitchers Yiomar Camacho of the Bears and Jose Campos are the expected starters.
