Offense Aplenty for SwampBats in Win over Sanford

KEENE, NH - The Keene SwampBats (20-14) used a pair of four-run innings to post 11 runs on 15 hits in an 11-2 victory over the Sanford Mainers (18-13) on Wednesday night at Alumni Field in Keene.

Six different players had multi-hit games for Keene: Rudy Aguilar (St. John's-2-4, RBI, SB, R), Joe Breaux (Alabama-2-4, 3B, RBI, 2 SB, R), Cordell Dunn Jr. (Grayson College-2-4, HR, 3 RBI, R), Alex Griffith (Francis Marion-3-4, 2B, HR, 2 RBI, 2 R), Ryan Romano (St. John's River-2-4, 2B, RBI, 2 R) and Brandon Smith (Dayton-3-5, 3B, 2 R).

The SwampBats grabbed an early 1-0 lead with a run in the first as Jacob Koos (Stetson) drew a leadoff walk, stole second and third and scored on a sac fly from Dunn Jr.

Koos leads the NECBL with 24 stolen bases and broke the SwampBats' single-season record with his two swipes on the night.

Keene broke the game open with a four-run fourth that made it a 5-0 game. Breaux started the scoring in the inning with an RBI triple, while Lorenzo Hampton (Florida International) delivered a sac fly and Romano and Aguilar came through with RBI singles.

SwampBats starter Griff McGarry (Virginia) surrendered just one hit while walking five and fanning a season-high tying 11 over 4.1 IP in a no-decision.

Sanford starter Matt Dockman (Duke) gave up five runs on seven hits while walking one and fanning two in 4.0 IP to take the loss and drop to 1-1.

The Mainers got a pair back in the sixth to cut the lead to 5-2 including a sac fly from Josh Zbierski (Southern New Hampshire).

Griffith's two-run shot in the bottom half of the frame got the runs right back for the SwampBats and stretched the lead to 7-2. The home run was Griffith's fifth of the summer.

Dunn Jr. delivered a two-run shot as part of a four-run eighth inning that gave the hosts an 11-2 advantage. The home run was Dunn Jr.'s fifth of the season.

RHP Erik Kaiser (Vanderbilt-2.2 IP, 2 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 3 BB, 2 K) got the win for Keene to improve to 1-0. RHP Jeff Praml (Southern New Hampshire-1.0 IP, 2 K) and RHP Erick Zecha (RPI-1.0 IP, 2 H) followed Kaiser with scoreless outings in relief.

The SwampBats are off on Thursday before hosting the New Bedford Bay Sox on Friday night at Alumni Field. First pitch is set for 6:30 p.m. and RHP Kyle Whitten (1-2, 7.33) out of the University of Virginia will get the start for the hosts.
