Danville Otterbots News Release
DANVILLE, Va. - The Danville Braves hit their way out of a five-game losing streak with the big bats of José Peraza and Aris Alcantara. The two D-Braves combined to drive in five of the club's seven runs in a 7-1 victory over the Greeneville Astros Friday night at American Legion Post 325 Field.
In the first, D-Braves starter Ernesto Silva walked Astros leadoff man D'Andre Toney. Toney ran on the pitch, and, with the hit-and-run in motion, shortstop Carlos Correa singled to put men at opposite ends of the diamond. Silva got a groundball from second baseman Brian Blasik and the Braves turned two, but Toney scored to stake the 'Stros to a 1-0 lead. The run marked an end to Silva's scoreless first inning streak.
After the D-Braves were retired in order in the second they tied it and took the lead in the third. Left fielder Edison Sanchez drew a walk to give the Braves their first base runner since the first. Felix Marte followed with a run-scoring triple, his first triple since June 25, to even the score. First baseman Aris Alcantara found the sweet spot on a pitch from 'Stros starter Kevin Comer and cracked a two run tape measure shot before the Braves batted around to cap a five run third. That's the first time the Braves have scored five or more runs in one inning since August 14.
The Braves padded their lead in the fourth. Sanchez hit a stand-up triple and Peraza plated him with his fourth hit of the series. Second baseman Levi Hyams kept the rally alive and hit his third double in three games to plate Peraza and make it 7-1. D-Brave batters combined for 10 hits with six coming from the top four spots in the batting order.
At one point Silva sat down eight Astros in a row. He went on to turn in his team-high eighth Quality Start of the season. Silva pitched 7.0 innings and allowed one run (earned) on three hits and is credited with his fifth win of the season.
Northpaw Williams Perez will get the call for the D-Braves. The 'Stros will go with fellow rightie Lance McCullers.
Tomorrow night's game, the last of the regular season, is Fan Appreciation Night. A postgame fireworks show will follow in appreciation of all the support shown to this team by the Greater Danville Area.
