Odessa Jackalopes News Release

(Odessa, TX) - The Odessa Jackalopes split their two games on opening weekend for the Central Hockey League, and now prepare for three games this week -- two of them coming on their home ice.

Last week's record: 1-1-0

Season record: 1-1-0

This week's games: Tuesday vs. Rio Grande Valley, Friday at Amarillo, Saturday vs. Bossier-Shreveport

Friday vs. Corpus Christi, 3-2 Win (SO)

The Jackalopes trailed 2-0 entering the third period, but scored a pair of goals to force overtime -- including Collin Circelli's game-tying marker with :32 remaining in regulation. Neither team could score in overtime, forcing a shootout. In round six of the shootout, Circelli scored the go-ahead goal while Joel Martin made the shootout winning save to seal the 3-2 victory.

Saturday at Amarillo, 2-1 Loss

Amarillo goaltender Mike Brown stole the show, and the game, with 42 saves for the Gorillas as the Jacks lost 2-1. Joe Guenther scored both goals for the Gorillas, and Dominic Leveille scored Odessa's only tally. Joel Martin was impressive again for the Jackalopes stopping 24 of 26 shots, but took the loss.

-- Upcoming Games --

Tuesday vs. Rio Grande Valley, 7:05 PM

It's the first meeting of the season between Odessa and the Killer Bees, who both reached the CHL's postseason a year ago. The Jacks had a 3-2-2 record against the Bees in 2008-09, as five of the seven meetings were decided by a goal.

Friday at Amarillo, 7:05 PM

Odessa will look to avenge their 2-1 loss over the weekend to the Gorillas and solve the riddle of Amarillo goaltender, Mike Brown. Brown began the season giving up just one goal in his first 120 minutes of play, including a shutout streak of 103:46.

Saturday vs. Bossier-Shreveport, 7:05 PM

It the first of three meetings this season between the Jacks and Mudbugs, and the only meeting that will be played in Odessa. Last season the Jackalopes lost their only game against the Bugs, 5-2.

The Odessa Jackalopes are the Central Hockey League affiliate for the NHL's New York Islanders and the AHL's Bridgeport Sound Tigers. The team is in the middle of their 13th season in the Permian Basin. Season tickets, mini-plans, and single game tickets are available by calling (432) 552-PUCK or visiting jackalopes.org.
