Lubbock GunSlingers News Release

Odessa- The Lone Stars came out for the opening kickoff in body, but not in spirit Saturday night in Odessa. By the time Lubbock got into the game they found themselves down 17 points in the first half. The Stars would fight their way back into the game but it was too little too late, the final Roughnecks 47, Lone Stars 40.

For the first time this season a defense out played the Lone Stars offense. The Roughnecks held Lubbock to their lowest scoring output of the season. The Lone Stars did not help matters fumbling the ball three times throughout the game, twice deep in their own territory.

Tommy Miller had his worst outing of the season completing just 9 of 21 passes for 81 yards and two touchdowns. Robbie Jenkins came off the bench in relief early in the second quarter, but did not fair much better. Jenkins would complete only 4 of 12 attempts for 90 yards and two passing touchdowns.

For the second week in a row Anton Paige was the Lone Stars only offensive weapon. He finished with 9 receptions for 140 yards and three touchdowns. Adrian Perez, who played in his first game with Lubbock, and Raymond Hardy, who spent the last three weeks on the IR, combined for 4 completions and just 23 yards.

The offense did not get a whole lot of help from the guys up front. The Lone Stars had given up just three sacks all season, Saturday night they gave up three more and Odessa had pressure on both Jenkins and Miller all night.

The Lone Stars defense was a bright spot for the team. They recorded two sacks and grabbed 3 interceptions, while holding the Roughnecks to just 158 yards of total offense. It was a team effort on defense that gave the Lone Stars a chance to tie the game at 47 with about a minute to go. The defense held the Roughnecks offense on four consecutive plays from the goal line.

The Lone Stars could not complete a pass and ended up giving Odessa the ball back. The Roughnecks would run out the clock and get their third win in a row.

The Lone Stars fall to 3 and 4 on the season and will have a chance to even their record next week in Amarillo. It will be the third meeting of the year between the Dusters and the Lone Stars with each team winning on their home field.
