OC Flyers beat Yuma in rubber match 7-4

For the first time in the three game series, the team that scored first could not pull out the victory as the Orange County Flyers (11-4) beat the Yuma Scorpions (9-8) 7-4 Thursday night at Goodwin Field in Fullerton, CA.

For the first time this season, Andre Simpson (5-0) appeared hittable early, but settled late, striking out four in seven innings en route to his league leading fifth win of the season.

Dave Bacani continued to hit well in Fullerton and led the way offensively for the Flyers, going 4 for 5, scoring two runs.

Maikel Jova got the scoring going for Yuma with an RBI triple in the first and later scored on a Jeremy Cleveland single.

In the bottom of the first, David Bacani kept up his hot hitting with a double just out of the reach of the center fielder Almario before being brought in by Jermy Acey's double down the left field line.

Mark Okano tied the game in the botom of the third with his eighth home run of the year over the 385 ft. sign in left center field.

The Flyers stayed on Esposito in the third, as Bacani followed Okano's homer with a double, Acey singled before Patrick Breen drove a single into right center to plate Bacani. With two outs, Fernando Pacheco popped up right behind the second base, but miscomunnication between the Yuma middle infielders allowed the ball to drop for an RBI single and the inning to continue.

Yuma answered in the fourth, as A.J. Valentine answered back with an RBI single up the middle to plate Jeremy Clevland.

Pacheco added a two out solo home run, his seventh of the year, in the bottom of the fifth to extend the Orange County lead to three.

Yuma added a run in the seventh after Hector Bernal reached on an error and later scored.

Buddy Morales tacked on an insurance run in the bottom of the seventh with a two out RBI single.

Yuma threatened in the bottom of the ninth, loading the bases with one out as Calderon lined out to Rios at third before De La Rosa induced a game ending pop up by Almario to Pacheco to end the game.

Eric Sheridan threw a scoreless eighth for Orange County.

Reno comes in for a two day, three game set beginning Friday night at 7:05 against the Flyers.
