Orange County SC News Release
IRVINE, Calif (April 30, 2015) - Oliver Wyss' Orange County Blues FC is on a hot three-game winning streak, and look to continue their success as they travel to the Pacific Northwest to take on Major League Soccer-owned teams Seattle Sounders FC 2 and Portland Timbers 2.
Orange County has seen early success with a current record of 3-1-0, and the team continues to grow, becoming more of a threat to their opponents with their strong defensive line and attacking players. Captain Didier Crettenand leads the team in game winning goals and assists. Forward Denzel Slager is gaining recognition for his speed and ability to set up his teammates, while also scoring his first goal of the season against Sacramento Republic FC. Goalkeeper Pepe Miranda and defender Romeo Filipovic lead a staunch Blues backline, standing on top of the USL's shutout rankings and allowing only one goal in three matches.
"These will be exciting games. It was a good win against Sacramento. We trained hard this week to prepare for both games and now we have more confidence. We know what we want to do on the pitch and just have to execute it," commented the Swiss midfielder.
Up first for the Blues is S2 on Friday night at Starfire Sports Stadium. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. PT. Seattle has a current record of 3-2-1 and is going home determined to get a win after their 1-1 draw with Whitecaps FC 2. Homegrown forward Darwin Jones leads the team with four goals and is seen as a threat due to his speed and his powerful shot.
The Blues then travel to Portland, Ore. to face T2 and forward Kharlton Belmar, who netted both goals during T2's 2-0 win over Arizona United SC. Belmar has contributed to the team's success with a total of five goals, two of which were game winners. The Timbers currently stand with a record of 3-2-1. The match will take place Sunday, May 3rd at Providence Park, with kickoff scheduled at 6 p.m. PT.
Both matches can be streamed live through each home team's YouTube channel. County Line Coalition (the Blues' supporters group) will be hosting watch parties Friday and Sunday night at Beach City Brewery in Huntington Beach, Calif. The Blues Street Team will also be present at both parties giving away prizes, and fans with Blues gear will receive $1 off pints.
