MONTCLAIR, N.J. - New York Red Bulls II (0-1-2, 3 pts.) remain home to face fellow expansion side Huntsville City FC (0-1-2, 4 pts.) at MSU Soccer Park. The match will be streamed on MLS Season Pass with Apple TV with both teams looking to grab their first win in MLS NEXT Pro.
New York is coming off their first loss of the year, after falling to Crown Legacy FC by a score of 3-1. Venezuelan forward Wiki Carmona notched his third goal of the year in the eighth minute thanks to great team play from Frank Ssebufu and Daniel Edelman.
Huntsville had a more favorable result in their last match where they grabbed two points against FC Cincinnati 2. Regulation ended in a 2-2 draw and Huntsville ended up securing the second point after winning the shootout by a score of 7-6.
While both clubs have yet to get in the win column to start their MLS NEXT Pro campaigns, the results overall have been positive with room for growth. New York and Huntsville have taken points from two of their three matches so far, with the Nashville affiliate having the edge in the standings thanks to their 2-0 shootout record.
The newly implemented shootout rule for MLS NEXT Pro matches that end in a draw has been introduced plenty for both clubs. Red Bulls II have gone through two already against Columbus and Atlanta, posting a 1-1 record in those shootouts. Huntsville, as previously mentioned, won in a shootout in their last match against Cincinnati as well as their first match of the year against Crown Legacy FC.
Red Bulls II currently sit tied for tenth in the Eastern Conference standings with three points, only one point behind Huntsville who are in eighth with four points.
