OAKLAND, CA - New York Red Bulls II (3-22-5, 14 points) fell to Oakland Roots SC (9-9-12, 39 points) 1-0 on Saturday, September 17 at Laney College Football Stadium.
Oakland scored the lone goal of the match in the 76th minute, as Edgardo Rito made a run down the far side of the field after a feed from Charlie Dennis and sent in a low pass to Óttar Karlsson, who was able to slide and tap the ball into the back of the net.
Giannis Nikopolidis recorded seven saves in the match. He has accumulated 15 over his last two starts. The first-year goalkeeper has three matches of seven or more saves this season.
Following the match, New York will return home for its 2022 home finale on Wednesday, September 21, as it hosts Detroit City FC. Kickoff at MSU Soccer Park is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. ET with coverage available on ESPN+.
