April 9, 2023 - MLS NEXT Pro (MLS NEXT Pro)
New York Red Bulls II News Release
MONTCLAIR, N.J. - New York Red Bulls II (0-0-2, 3 pts.) will host fellow MLS NEXT Pro expansion club Crown Legacy FC (1-0-1, 4 pts.) at MSU Soccer Park at MSU Soccer Park. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. ET with coverage available on Apple TV's MLS Season Pass.
New York is coming off a solid performance on the road in Atlanta, holding the match to a draw and then winning the shootout to secure two points. The match was the clubs second consecutive that ended in the newly implemented shootout, with it ending in a much more favorable result than the club's first match against Columbus Crew 2.
Crown Legacy enter the match fresh off their first win in club history, after defeating FC Cincinnati 2 by a score of 2-1 at home in Charlotte. The team also participated in a shootout, losing 4-3 to Huntsville City FC and settling for a point in their season opener.
Red Bulls II are looking to continue their point streak so far this season, which can be credited to their defensive performances as well as two goals from forward Wiki Carmona. New York has only allowed four shots on target through their two matches, which is tied for first in the league. Carmona's two goals are good for fourth in the league and only one behind the league leaders with three.
Even though they are a new club, Crown Legacy have plenty of talent that cannot be overlooked. Forward Brandon Cambridge has tallied three goals already this season, which makes him tied for the league lead in MLS NEXT Pro. He has started both games and played in every minute so far this season for Charlotte.
This will be the first of three matchups between the two clubs this season, with the next two being in Charlotte on June 18th and September 10th.
