NY/NJ Comets News Release
Bridgewater, NJ - March 14, 2013 - Owner/GM, Michael Neuwirth announced today that Rutgers softball coach Jay Nelson has been named head coach of the NY/NJ Comets.
"Jay's extensive coaching background and passion for the sport makes him the ideal coach for our inaugural season," stated Neuwirth. "I have followed Rutgers softball over the years and Jay's connection with his players and fans was apparent."
Nelson is in his sixth year as head coach of the Rutgers University softball program. Under his leadership, the Rutgers softball program experienced a turnaround with back to back Big East tournament berths in 2010 and 2011. Prior to Rutgers, Nelson served as an assistant coach at Seton Hall University for ten years, where he helped guide them to two Big East Conference championships. Prior to Seton Hall, Nelson served as head coach of the Mountain Lakes High School softball team for twelve years and played competitively for the New Jersey Windmillers men's fast pitch team.
"I am looking forward to being a great representative of the team and league," stated Nelson. "To grow this league we need everyone on board doing the best they can and setting a good example to create an environment for young ladies to show their talent and their love for the game."
