Lancaster JetHawks News Release
(MODESTO, CA) - The Modesto Nuts had strong pitching and plenty of offense Wednesday morning, blasting past the JetHawks 8-1 to take the final game of a three-game series. Nuts starter Juan Nicasio hurled eight innings, allowing just one run. The JetHawks recorded only three hits and dropped the final two games after winning the season opener.
The game was close through the early and middle innings. The Nuts struck first, getting two runs in the third inning. Lancaster cut the gap to one, scoring on an unusual play in the fourth inning. With Brandon Barnes at third and Freddy Parejo at first with two outs. Parejo took off to steal second just as Nicasio turned to bluff a pickoff throw to first. Parejo froze midway to second base. When Nicasio turned to throw to the second baseman, Barnes sprinted towards the plate. Distracted, Nicasio turned home, before throwing back to second. Barnes scored before Parejo could be tagged out, giving Lancaster what would turn out to be its lone run.
The Nuts pulled away after that, adding two more runs against starter David Duncan and scoring twice each against Ashton Mowdy and Mike Modica.
The JetHawks had only three hits. Barnes was the only Lancaster player to reach base twice with a hit and a walk. Kyle Godfrey hurled a perfect inning of relief.
The JetHawks road trip will move west to San Jose beginning Thursday night. Ross Seaton (3-9) will pitch for the JetHawks against Kyle Nicholson (5-5) of the Giants. The game begins at 7:00. The game will be broadcast starting with the Pre-Game Show at 6:45 on CSN@JetHawks.com and NewsTalk 1380.
